The livelier Iris

Old Alf, now commenting from the Other Side:
In the Spring a fuller crimson comes upon the robin's breast;
In the Spring the wanton lapwing gets himself another crest;
In the Spring a livelier iris changes on the burnish'd dove;
In the Spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.
Who'd a thunk it?

The whole thing gains in bizarre surrealism the more one contemplates it. Who but a DUPper could, straight-faced, come out with this (from her)? --
I grieve that I have damaged my profession in Christ but I am comforted that He was able to forgive even me…I do not deserve a second chance but I have been given one.
Or (from him):
In a spirit of humility and repentance Iris sought my forgiveness, she took responsibility upon herself alone for her actions and I have forgiven her. More important, I know that she has sought and received God's forgiveness.
How great it must be to have a hot line to Higher Authority. Especially when the Almighty and Peter Robinson seems to share a forgiving entity.

Meanwhile, the story still has legs. The shrewder heads are already looking at the financial references. So, follow the money ...

For Malcolm, credit for the best line so far comes from Dave Semple's piece, "Let the Iris Robinson who is without sin", at Though Cowards Flinch:
Iris Robinson, that fearless bible-wielding scourge of homosexuals everywhere, has been coveting her neighbour’s ass. Or at least some other parts of him ...
Semple then develops this throw-away crack into a wholly valid point:
Iris Robinson once held a portfolio that covered youth suicides, some of which, in Northern Ireland, are driven by the repression visited on those who are gay, or who otherwise do not conform.

Needless to say she held this portfolio whilst retaining the view that homosexuality was a choice people could receive psychiatric treatment to recover from.

The only point I'd make is to ask whether whoever shagged her did it out of spite. Protestant spite for sure.
